2009: It was a very good Doris Day Year
As the dear reader can see , I haven’t made an entry since April of this year.
Seeing that the year is literally coming to a close, I’ve decided to do an end of
year review of all things Doris.
In April we celebrated Doris’ Birthday in Carmel in grand style with a whole bunch of Doris Day friends and fans. We had a great time.
In June I went to Oxford and had a chance , thanks to a a very special person, to talk to Doris. Doris sounded wonderful, as though she was there with us in the living room. She was having a great time and so were we.
I got a lovely letter from Doris that I will cherish forever.
In an interview, Diane Keaton stated that Doris inspired her to become an actress.
Keith Urban listens to Doris Day songs before he performs. He says that it centers him.
Nellie McKay made a Doris Day tribute album. She has appeared on several radio shows and always speaks glowingly about Doris.
Several tribute shows have been dedicated to Doris, both in the US and the UK.
Anne Murray, in her new book, “All of Me”, writes about her visit with her idol, Doris, in Carmel, and how she finds Doris to be one of the greatest singers of all times. We,the fans, agree.
Pillow Talk was selected for the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress (Washington DC), along with the THriller, The Muppet Movie, Dog Day Afternoon and other selections. Pillow Talk is considered the role model for other romantic comedies. Doris Day was described as effervescent and one of the best light comediennes of cinema.
You Tube is full of Doris Day videos. Some of the best ones are from Dayniac.
My movie is coming along well. Still tweaking it. If all goes well, I’ll be showing it in Carmel. Doris is my muse.
